[It's been a week since he arrived in Luceti, and Peter figured it was long enough a gap that Spider-Man could convincingly arrive in Luceti himself, separate from Peter. That would help diminish suspicions, right? He had to make sure that he couldn't use his powers as Peter, not even in Luceti. He couldn't take a chance. There were already at least two people who knew his identity, and that was because of back home. Cluing anyone else into the whole identity business could jeopardize someone -- like Liz or Gwen -- if they arrived in Luceti at the same time as... say, Rhino.

Not that he would remember. O'Hirn was pretty dumb.

Anyway, this was a perfect chance to dress up in the good ol' red and blue and try webslinging around the village. Keyword is try, because there weren't exactly skyscrapers in Luceti. He would have to cut it pretty close to the ground, but it was good practice. He didn't know how long he'd be stuck in the village, so navigation via webs was key. Better to practice during downtime.

And that's when he pulls out the journal to look at while swinging. Better put on his best pokerface.

... Not that people could see his face.]

[Voice]

Man, oh man. This Luceti place is nothing like the Big Apple. Too much... nature. Needs more skyscrapers. [Yeah, he kind of laughed at his own joke.] Read enough of the guide to get my bearings, but I've gotta say. I'm more impressed than freaked out.

[All the sarcasm in the world is just dripping through the feed. So is the noise of webslinging.]

It's not like a lot of baddies get the one-up on me like this. Gotta give props where it's earned. At least until I bust myself right on outta here. Then I'm just gonna have to take my props back. Got a warranty and everything. [Whoops, almost hit the ground there.] Whoa! You guys need to invest in taller buildings!

Not good. I didn't think about that before flinging myself around. [He rubs a finger on his chin, thinking of a way around it. He might still be able to make it on household items.]

"Well, since I already know one of your fun secrets, it's only fair I tell you mine. I'm a wizard. And I've got a whole heap of gear that makes my job a little easier."

Yeah, yeah. [His arms cross.] A wizard. That's pretty similar to a witch, right? I'm not mixing up my fantasy here, am I?

"Well, it really depends where you're from. Some worlds, a wizard and a witch are just different genders of the same thing, others, they describe totally different stuff.

Where I'm from, it's mostly semantic- neither one is gendered, really, they just describe different outlooks of the same thing."

Alright. Fill me in on the outlooks, I'm curious. [He did just meet a witch, after all.]

"Alright. Well, nobody's really sure where magic comes from, in my world. The majority of us think it's just a natural force that happens to be responsive to the will of certain people- people with Talent. The majority of us just call ourselves Wizards.

However, Witches... functionally identical, but they believe their powers come from old deities, or nature spirits, or elemental spirits. Basically, a gift from somebody else, rather than an innate part of themselves. It's really not a huge difference. We all work with the same group, a group known as the White Council of Wizards."

[This is actually really interesting, Spidey nodding with each sentence. He's actually taking this all in.

That won't stop him from making a wisecrack.] I'm guessing the White Council of Wizards and Witches didn't roll of the tongue quite right.

"Well, 'Wizards and Witches' might have, but somehow I don't think 'The White Council of Wizards, Witches, Shamans, Medicine Persons, Spirit Channelers, Vodoun, Priests, Alchemists, Occultists, Arcanists, and Folks That Do Spooky Things' is gonna fit on a business card."

[Chin tap.]

What about really small font?

"The White Council? Those old geezers can barely read a billboard without putting on inch-thick bifocals and squinting."

What if it's like... magically scrolling text on a card. You guys can do that, right?

"In theory. In practice, it's a royal pain in the ass to manage, and would take far longer to pull off- and you'd have to do it for every business card..."

Oh. That sounds a lot more of a pain than I thought.

[Pause.]

Abbreviations.

"Nah, it would start off 'WCW' and then we'd have the wrestling people on our backs. Dunno about you, but I'd rather keep large, muscular guys in nothing but booties and spanky-pants as far from my back as can be arranged."

Oh, come on. They're not that tough. [Haha. Wrestling.] But I guess that's not gonna work either. Man, I guess the witches are just gonna get jipped in the name department, huh?

"Yeah, well, mostly they don't care much. We just call ourselves the White Council anyway."

[Spidey shrugs.]

Guess that works better than making the name ridiculously long. Look at me, overcomplicating everything.
